Let me see your pillar aquascaping
« on: August 22, 2010, 12:25:58 PM »
So after many cave ins I have decided to redo my aquascaping. Would like to keep it close to what it already is as I like the piller aquascaping that simulates the end of a natural reef.  Would love to see pics of your piller aquascaping along with suggestions on how to accomplish this without cave ins.  I have heard of using reef safe epoxy and fiberglass rods but could use some help.....

I am in the process of redoing my rock now and am doing pillars. I happened to have 2 nice long rocks that I am just attaching other smaller ones to but I have heard of the acrylic rod method too. I am using a little epoxy to start the hold and the bonding them with the reef safe cements i went in on with Anthony. It works great. I think he had some extra if you wanna ask him.  The issue I am running into now is getting them to stand up. I am lazy and don't want to order acrylic rods, cus I have looked in every store, so I am using plastic hangers. I am trying to make some sort of legs or something with them. I'll try to get a pic up when I am done with it all.

thanks when you can I would love to see pics......I will touch basis with Ant to see if he wants to sell his left over to me.  I think you can use the marker posts found in home depot or lowes in near were the mailboxes are.  They are the marker posts for edging your driveway for snow removal. I know they are fiberglass roads about 1/4 thick I would guess and are very cheap....

I don't have a pic of the rocks yet as I am not crazy how one of the two turned out but, (someday) when its covered in corals you won't even see it. I will try to get that posted up soon. I did take pics of how they are standing upright. I went with my gheto hanger idea. Drilled a hole through the rock, then put a straight piece of hanger thru that, and then cut the curved parts of the top and used them as legs on both sides. I used epoxy to start the hold and then covered in the cement I got with Ant.
