No light corals.
« on: June 09, 2010, 04:58:19 PM »
So... I am looking for some corals that require no light, and I dont mean they will be in a dark room. I am looking for corals that will survive on whatever light comes in from a window, and maybe house lights, if on. I may use a very small led light, but that is more for color accent then for coral health, so do not add that into the equation.

I have some dendro and sun polyps, that I will be putting in there and I am assuming they should be fine. Are there any other corals that would be in that category?

Also should I be worried about the dendros and sun polys being stressed by being moved into the "no light" tank, because they are currently housed on the bottom (slightly under an overhang) 18" down under t5s.

Red Chili corals are cool. The only other things I can think of are non-photo gorgonians. The red and yellow varieties of carribean gorgs are cheapest and easiest. Sponges are very cool, and there's tons out there. Reeftopia and Reefs2Go are dirt cheap.

Coco worms are really an invert, but you're right they don't need light and neither do feather dusters. Forgot about Disticopora (lace corals), but you don't see them much at all.

Ya, i thought about lace and sponge too. I tried lace once and it did not make it; heard they can be hard.  And it will be a shallow tank, so I'm worried about the sponge growing and accidentally being exposed to air. But good options, I may use them.

Agian an invert, but electric scallops should be good as well?

Put a scallop in your tank and watch how fast it scoots under the first rock it can bump into. You might get lucky and it stays in a viewable area, but lots don't

some elegance could do it  "the  small flesh color ones "  if You can find one but thay will need a small amount
of full spectrum light from the window  & will do great under a 40w
single full spectrum bulb   IE cheap freshwater light & count on spot feeding
Its 12:00 pm Do You know where Your fish is ????
