EMACO GP cement group buy (aka Thorite cement)
« on: May 22, 2010, 08:34:32 AM »
Thorite cement now goes under the name EMACO GP.
This is the cement people use to aqua-scape tanks.  After it hardens it can be added to the tank right away.  No curing required and does not affect the ph.
looking for 2-3 people to split a 50lb bag.
My plan is to cement a few rocks that I have into a nice shape for my 120g. Dont need 50lbs though. With shipping to my house it cost $90.00 a bag .
Figure 3 people, $30. each. 4- $22.50 each

And here come the questions...

How fast does it dry?

How moldable or pliable is it? Is it runny like cement or a thicker moldable consistency?

Looks like cement... messy.

Just not seeing the drying period, saw something about 28 days cureing, that's gotta be wrong.

Trying to find out a def of the drying time. If it is much shorter, I think I maybe interested, if you can get 1 more person.

From what I heard there is no curing involved. I will post a video of a guy who built his aquascape from thorite.
After it hardened his sculpture went right into the tank. Corals added right after with zero effects. At work right now. Will post the video link later.

So from what he is saying it took about 6hrs before he could put it in. Would blow drying it help it dry faster?

for everything I've read about concrete (not a lot ok) concrete will get stronger when wet, I am only using it to cover unions between rocks so it does not matter much to me

Ditto.  6 hours is nothing. No curing. You cant go wrong. Once coraline cover the rock you wont be able to tell concrete from live rock. As long as it keeps its sturdiness and does not topple.  I have a 5lb bag of original thorite coming my way. Got it from a guy off reefcentral.  Gonna play around with that to see what it can do.  So whos in for the 50 lb bag??
Me and Kelvin so far....Who else?
