Nothing new. Tank is done cycling. Slight algae bloom going on but nothing crazy.
Gonna wait another 2 weeks to start adding fish, then corals.
Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate reading zero.
No rush.

just picked up 2- 400w SE 20k Artemis bulbs to run with my pfo duel m135 magnetic ballast...loving the color. Not to Blue and very Intense. Way better look than the 14ks I originally started the tank with.. Real happy with them.

Also going to start running WM EcoBak pellets. From what I've been reading its working wonder...New tank, new technology, new science...Trying to eliminate buying gfo..Cost to damm much and is to messy! If that works I will have no need for my deep sand bed. That section in the sump will prob become my frag section.....

FYI- This months issue of Coral magazine has a excellent article about the different methods of carbon dosing and the results they bring...Its like carbon dosing for dummies! lol

Any good reading you recommend on the carbon pellets?  Do they need replacing how often,etc?

just google it... From what I read in coral magazine ecobak is the way to go..Much easier than of methods....last about 6 month..

Did some research on this and it looks great.  One concern I have is would my chaeto die off in my refugium if I start using this product.  would you still need GFO too?

The pellets are made to consume the nitrates and phosphates from the tank therefore taking the place of gfo. They recommend not running gfo and the pellets at the same time.   As far as the cheato I would say that a possibility that it just might die off. (no more nutrients to intake) If your gonna try it, I would say take everything off line then run the pellets.  If you see a drastic improvement then you will know its definitely from the pellets and not anything else or a combination of different things... Got mine going for a week now and there is no visible sign of improvement yet.  Intructions say in the 3rd to 4th week the bacteria will start to colonize, consume the pellets and start doing some justice to the tank....We shall see.

I was having the same thoughts as you regarding the chateo and taking the refugium off line to test.  I will be looking to pick up a used reactor soon and try this myself.  Will keep you posted of my results.
