« on: May 08, 2009, 04:59:47 AM »
This is my main Display tank with the dimension of 36" X 18" X 18".
It was set up one year and six months ago.

Below are the FTS picunder different lighting conditions:

Under white and blue LED lights:

Under blue LED light only:

How do you guys feel about the LED lighting?

i would love to know more about your lighting..... is it a fixture you bought or is it a diy setup?.....here led\'s are mostly used for moonlighting.... there is a fixture here (cant remember the name) but its very expensive....

what corals are you keeping in that tank?  are they mostly soft corals?.... how are led lights for sps and lps?

I have both LPS and SPS in this tank. They are doing quite well with the LED light.
About the info. of the LED lighting fixture, sorry for my not able to answer you here. I think it will be not appropriate to discuss this in public since I might be considered as "doing advertisement" for the products. Sorry about that!

Wow, stunning!
I know you said you can\'t answer the question on what LED system you use, but could you tell us how many LEDS are on the unit? How many actinic and how many white? How long you run it for? If you notice any issues? What you like the most about LED? Did you ever run different lighting on your tanks or did they always have LED?

How is your sps growth? The colors look really good. Do you dose anything? Run a calcium reactor? Foods?
Very nice color!

Well, I just discussed with eastonreef about the replying of the question about the LED unit that I am using now, and she said that I can feel free to answer the questions in public since I am not selling them here! Please do not ask me for anything about the price, I won\'t reply further! Sorry for that! I am ruuning with my LED for six months already and the corals are doing well under the LED lights! One thing worth noticing is that the coloration of the corals under the lights is really stunning especially under the blue ones!

There are some pics of the 24" LED fixture for my 20 gal tank but not many for this 50 gal main display.
Below is some pics of what the fixture looks like!

With the moonlight modules on

With moonlight, red modules, and the blue lights on

With all lights on (moonlight, red, blue, and white)

On my 20gal (24" in length) tank

What is looks like under the moonlight only

Very nice. Love the shimmer!
The first picture says white and blue, seeing the photos of your LED lighting, I see red, what does the red do and do you use it?

Also, what else do you run? Do you add any additives like potassium, vitamin c, etc...
Do you have a refugium? What brands of salt are available to you?

LOL! I sure ask a lot of questions...sorry  :D ! I am just curious as to what people in other countries run.

Yes, I do use those red modules for lighting! The red light is mainly for enhance the coloration of the fishes in tank especially when the white light is OFF. The presence of the red light makes significant difference! Moreover, some research articles have mentioned that the addition of red light is beneficial for the fluorescence proteins in the corals, which means the coloration can be maintained or even enhanced!
I have a complete reef system which is composed of a 50g display, 20g sub-display, 10g sump, 10g refugium and a 10 g freshwater reservoir for top-off. Below shows the figure of whole system:

I use "RealOcean" salt for my tank (might be only available in Taiwan). I seldom use chemical additives such as potassium or calcium. I add Iodine (Tropic Marin) 1 drops per day. Dilute honey solution (yes, honey solution!) is added 5cc to 100L water once every week for offering amino acids needed for the corals. This seems to be quite useful especially on the zoas.

As for myself, I am from Taiwan (a beautiful island country next to China, a bad neighbor, lol). Nice to meet you guys here in TRL again!

The red light is mainly for enhancing the coloration of the fishes especially under blue LED light only! It does makes significant difference! Moreover, according to some research articles, it is mentioned that the addition of red light is beneficial for the certain functional fluorecent proteins in the corals, which means that the coloration can be maintained or even enhanced with the spectrum! I do use the red ones for my lighting!

Below is the figure of my complete reef system which is composed of:
(a) 50g display, (b) 20g sub-display (zoa only), (c) 10g sump, (d) 15g refugium, (e) 10g freshwater reservoir for top-off
